How do the types of extension techniques differ?
There are two methods of applying eyelash extensions, classic or volume. However, the two types are often used in conjunction together. Refer to the information below to visualize the differences between them.
Classic Eyelash Extensions
The classic lashing technique is applying a maximum of one extension to one natural lash (1:1).
Hybrid Eyelash Extensions
A hybrid set includes elements of both classic and volume lashing. It consists of some natural lashes being applied 1:1, and other natural lashes being applied with volume fans. Hybrid sets are great for clients who cannot afford to maintain a volume set, but still desire more volume than what is available with classic lashing. It is also a great service to provide as you are learning volume and increasing your speed. When applying a hybrid set, keep in mind that generally the contrast and difference between the lashes, makes ellipse extensions a less than optimal choice for your classic lash.
Volume Eyelash Extensions
This method uses multiple extensions across all natural lashes (NL). Volume denominations used are 2d (2 extensions to 1 NL), 3d (3 extensions to 1 NL), 4d (4 extensions to 1 NL), etc. Primarily in volume lashing, 0.06, 0.07, and 0.10 extensions are used. A variety of denominations can be used in a set, to both accomodate for weaker natural lashes, as well as to help disguise gaps or flaws in the lash line.
Mega Volume Eyelash Extensions
Mega volume lashing is still considered volume lashing. In mega volume, even thinner diameter lashes are used to increase the number of extensions that are able to be safely applied. Although unrealistic, this could mean a lash fan of even 20D! Mega volume is typically achieved with 0.03 or 0.05 extensions. The techniques used to make mega fans use the same principles you will be learning in this course, however additional techniques may be used. Mega volume fans are typically less uniform than regular volume fans.
